Before deciding

A source for each important answer

A drug label, a care standard and a price check answer different questions. Use the source that fits the question.

For a product’s uses and cautions

Look for the exact product name and form. A label is the official product information. The ingredient name alone may leave the use unclear.

Compounded medicine, as of September 2026, remained unapproved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Before the medicine is offered to patients, its safety, quality and how well it works receive no FDA review.

For standards of online care

Suggested standards for state medical boards appear in Federation of State Medical Boards publications. A suggestion is different from a rule the state requires doctors to follow. Check the rules for the place where you take the visit.

As checked in September 2026, states have different rules for online prescribing.

The board federation’s guidance requires the same care standard for a remote visit as for an in-person visit.

For what a study actually found

A trial compares groups in a study. Look for who took part, the comparison, the length and who funded it. Read an average as a group result.

In a weight-loss study called STEP 8, people knew which treatment they received. The maker of both medicines paid for the study.

Care fee records

The care fees shown in this guide came from some services’ advertised prices checked in September 2026. They show what those pages offered, rather than what people actually paid. They do not cover every service.

Dated record · advertised care fees

Ask the service for a bill that lists each charge. Use it to compare what the fee includes.

Cash offer records

The medicine cash prices in this guide came from maker offers checked in September 2026. Your price depends on the exact product, strength and offer rules.

Dated record · medicine cash prices

Many terms in that check had a December 31, 2026 end date. Recheck the terms after that date.

Library record · terms with an end date

Ask which quantity counts as a month’s supply and which terms fit your own product.

Savings card records

The savings-card information in this guide was checked in September 2026. A card that lowers your share of an insurance bill has different rules from an offer to pay cash yourself.

Dated record · savings cards and cash offers

Ask whether someone with your insurance can use the exact offer. Read the card rules and the cash-price rules separately.

For Medicare’s temporary programme

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) runs the temporary programme. Its terms checked in September 2026 set a $50 monthly payment for people who qualify, separate from the usual Medicare prescription-drug plan.
